by Donald & Ray, Gay Travelers
Remember where you have dined when traveling and what you have eaten and then go somewhere completely new and try eating something else ! Those are great words to remember when traveling. Like most other travelers we have many times gotten into the rut of dining in the same restaurants in the same cities that we travel and usually order the same thing time after time after time. Once in a while, like in New England, the Lobster Rolls are so delicious that we just have to order them every time we go back there. Several of the restaurants around the country where we return a lot, we seem to order the same thing, be we are going to stop that.

“Down Under” adventureAUSTRALIA: “Down Under” adventure
by Ross
This is my first blog posting so hopefully the excitement and thrill of the subject overcompensates for my as-yet-to-be fully honed blogging skills. My partner and I spent 3 amazing weeks in New Zealand and Australia this winter. A dream come true trip to two places right at the top of my bucket list! We own a bed & breakfast in Maine and have always enjoyed experiencing new places through the looking glass of small B&B’s and Inns where ever we go. Our trip down under was no exception. Given our cold winters up here in the northeastern US we are always looking for bright, sunny, warm spots to re-energize and re-connect. And let me tell you New Zealand and Australia fit that bill perfectly.

Ecuador, A Legal High – Part TwoECUADOR: A Legal High – Part Two
by Ryan, BudaBB, Budapest, Hungary
eyond Quito one suggested place to plan a few days is Otavalo, a charming town with a 70% indigenous population just 59 miles north. Located in the northern Sierra region, a bus from Quito will cost you $7.00 for the 3 hour ride, but most hotels run a shuttle day tour for $35-45.00 per person. Unlike Quito, Otavalo gets hot and generally stays hot until the sun goes down. Located at 8,856 feet above sea level, the sun beats down. Light pants and short sleeved shirts are best. Have your sunscreen handy. An excellent choice for a stay is Hostal Dona Esther (www.otavalohotel.com) just off of the main square at Juan Montalvo 4-44 y Bolivar. Be aware that breakfast here is not included in the rates; pay attention to the menu prices, so there are no surprises at check-out time. There are few alternatives for breakfast in the city, so if you are a morning feeder, partake here.

Canal Du MidiFRANCE: Canal Du Midi
by Mark Binmore
Its classification as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on the 7th December 1996 has revitalized one of the oldest working canals in the world, now completely devoted to tourism. It stretches over 240 km, 20 to 24 m wide, at an average depth of 2 m. There are 69 locks and 350 engineering works along its length to help navigation. The Canal du Midi is the link between Portiragnes Portiragnes Village and Beach. Four miles of paved bike path connecting the village to the resort, allowing walkers and athletes to enjoy a unique landscape, surrounded by a unique natural area full of birds, bulls and Camargue horses.
The path that borders the entire length also allows for easy access by bike to discover exceptional works of the canal, located a few miles, that we start eastward towards Agde or the west to Beziers.

My Last Day in ParisFRANCE: My Last Day in Paris
by Dolly Goolsby
We have to say Au Revoir to Paris now. We walked and walked today, through the Tuileries Gardens, down to Place Concorde, then through the tree-lined pedestrian lane to Champs Elysees. It was cold again, with dark clouds threatening rain, but we did not get rained on. Just before we got to the Arche de Triumphe, we stopped for lunch. The weather did not improve, so we headed back to our apartment…however, we did get in a good 2 or 3 hours of walking.

Hello From ViareggioITALY: Hello From Viareggio
by Dolly Goolsby
How wonderful it is to be back in Italy, my second home. Although I still can’t speak Italian very well, hearing the language sounds very familiar to me, and I can only hope that in the next 2 months, my command of the language will be much improved. Susan and I both flew into Florence airport yesterday. I had to come from Paris by way of Vienna? Sort do confused me, too…and Susan flew in from US. We were very concerned, as she was flying on Lufthansa Airlines, which went on strike the day she left.

Viareggio, Torre del Lago and PucciniITALY: Viareggio, Torre del Lago and Puccini
by Dolly Goolsby
Well, I must say, we are really having a good time. The first thing I must show you is our dinner we made after buying the fresh fish that had to be cleaned. My friend did a great job with the cfish cleaning. We then baked it on top of new potatoes, with just a bit of olive oil, lemon, salt and pepper. Delizioso!! Yesterday, the weather kept us guessing as to whether it was going to rain or not. It was still warm, but cloudy. Massimo asked us if we would like to go with him over to Torre del Lago, which is really just a suburb of Viareggio. He needed to take something to a carpenter to be repaired.

Bella in RomeITALY: Bella in Rome
by Dolly Goolsby
Wow! Time is flying by..too fast. We arrived here in Rome on Monday, had a couple days to explore and get lost. Our apartment is in a nice neighborhood south of the Coleseum, Circus Maximus, etc., but still within walking distance to all these sights.

Plus, we are right next to a very ancient park, called Parco Scipio, that has a lot of old tombs, and surrounded by an ancient wall.

Tivoli and Our Last Day in RomeITALY: Tivoli and Our Last Day in Rome
by Dolly Goolsby
It is late Sunday afternoon and I must pack, as we are leaving Rome tomorrow. We have had such great new experiences here that I simply must share them before we go on to Sorrento tomorrow. Yesterday was another beautiful sunny day. We got on the Metro, then took a bus about one hour’s ride east of Rome, up toward the Appenines mountains to the town of Tivoli. We had thought about going to Hadrian’s Villa, which, of course, are more Roman ruins. But the bus stopped right in front of Villa d’Este, that has the fabulous Tivoli Gardens. We decided that was a priority; therefore, we never made it up to Hadrian’s villa.

Buongiorno From SorrentoITALY: Buongiorno From Sorrento
by Dolly Goolsby
Oh, how gorgeous Sorrento is! And much more relaxed than Rome, although there are many British, Canadian, and cruise ship tourists here. Our apartment, unfortunately, is on a very busy street, so night noise is a problem, but we are very central. And walking distance to everything. Yesterday when we arrived, we took a walking tour through the main part of the city, after enjoying a wonderful pizza at Pizza Aurora, right at the central piazza, Piazza Tasso. It was sunny and lovely, but all at once, the sky opened up, and we headed for the apartment at a fast clip. We were all soaked. And wouldn’t you know, 5 minutes later, the sun came out and it was beautiful again.

Amalfi Coast and PaestumITALY: Amalfi Coast and Paestum
by Dolly Goolsby
Another Wow!! What a day we had today. Our driver, Raffaele Monetti (look him up in Rick Steves’ Italy guidebook) picked us up at our apartment at 8:00 this morning in his 6 passenger Mercedes van. He drove us down the Amalfi coast, pointing out different sights and giving us some history of the area as we drove. We stopped in Positano for about 45 minutes, so we could look around the small city, then on to Amalfi. The beauty of the coast was so fabulous. The houses look like they are Super-glued to the hillside, but they have been very stable there for centuries, through invasions by Romans, and Moors.

Orvieto, Bagnoregio and CivitaITALY: Orvieto, Bagnoregio and Civita
by Dolly Goolsby
Now we are staying in Orvieto. This is one of the loveliest of the Italian hill towns. The town is in Umbria, about half way between Rome and Florence. We left Sorrento yesterday morning, arriving here early afternoon. It seems like we have been going non-stop. Yesterday was spent exploring the ancient city on our own, as everyone has their owns interests, then we shared our adventures with each other in the evening. Early this morning, we took a bus to the small town of Bagnoregio. From the bus stop, we walked across town (about a mile….a hilly mile), then walked across the footbridge to the ancient city of Civita.

How to Get the Most from Your Latin American AdventureLATIN AMERICA: How to Get the Most from Your Latin American Adventure
by Jennifer Doherty
Before you pack your bags and head off on your Latin American adventure, it’s best to spend some time planning the type of overseas escapades you are looking for. Latin America is so vast and so diverse that every type of experience is possible here and Latin American tours range from short and sweet city-hopping adventures to lengthier adventures taking in everything from the magnificent Inca ruins at Machu Picchu in Peru to the packed beaches and street parties of Rio de Janeiro. Latin America is a part of the world that is rich in colourful traditions and flamboyant celebrations – of which Rio Carnival is the most famous – and there is a healthy attitude towards LGB travellers in most Latin American locations.

MEXICO: Cenote Summer
by Casa del Maya
Summer is here and what better time to visit Merida, Mexico to tour some of the wonderful cenotes that dot the landscape around the city. These wonderful sinkholes, each one with its own special feel, provide ample opportunity to relax, cool off, and enjoy one another’s company as you escape the heat of summer. Over 3,000 cenotes dot the Yucatan peninsula. These swimming holes have been used by locals and visitors alike for hundreds of years. Some cenotes are just a few feet below the surface and resemble sunken lakes or a pond. Others are much deeper and require some climbing to reach the cool water. Still others require diving under a stone wall or archway to reach them. And many have been outfitted with ladders and even concrete stairs to facilitate reaching them easily.

At the Beach in Saint MartinST. MARTIN: At the Beach in Saint Martin
by Carlos Melia
If there is something that made me stay in Saint Martin, other than the lovely La Samanna by Orient-Express, was the incredible white sanded, blue transparent waters over both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. My favorites were all those on the Caribbean bay, since they are rather quiet, although with a strong current, great temperature and stunning vivid colors. Quite a daunting task, to explore an entire island in just four days, so I did what I know best when it comes to getting a global idea of a new destination, I hired a local guide to take me around and show me his favorite places.

Lunch Among the Treetops in Saint MartinSAINT MARTIN: Lunch Among the Treetops in Saint Martin
by Carlos Melia
Have lunch on the top of the trees, yes literally. That is what they told me, and I was OK… I have seen enough in this life so nothing quite surprise me anymore, but at the same time I always end up being surprised THANK GOD or life will become too boring right. Love to be outdoors connecting with nature? Or are you a daredevil and love extreme sports? Well there they have them both! Loterie Farm is a secret hideaway nestled in the hillside of Pic Paradis on French Saint Martin where you can wine, dine, climb, hike and glide over the treetop canopy. It is truly an eco-tourism and gastronomical experience you’re not likely to forget or find elsewhere. Shame on me, I only had lunch ha ha ha and a few local drinks.

Saint Martin vs. Sint MaartenSAINT MARTIN: Saint Martin vs. Sint Maarten
by Carlos Melia
Hi there everyone, it has been a while since my last report around the world. Been traveling extensively and still am, gathering as much information and experiences as possible to share with all of you. This time, about two weeks ago, I flew from New York to Saint Martin to explore the island. I must say right from the beginning that other than St Barth, I have never been a huge fan of The Caribbean, but it is quite exciting to be able to discover this little gem and be proven wrong sometimes. Perfect destination for a quick getaway, to have it combined with St Barth.

Istanbul’s Gay SceneTURKEY: Istanbul’s Gay Scene
Many consider Turkey to be a conservative society, so it’s perhaps unusual to discover that the country’s largest city, Istanbul, boasts a thriving gay scene that has continuously grown since the 1980s. While this scene may not rival other places throughout Europe which are particularly renowned gay travel destinations, Istanbul is considered to have the most lively and most welcoming gay culture in Turkey. Precisely why Istanbul became Turkey’s rebellious city can’t be said, although its location spanning the Bosphorus River, with the western half of the city classed as Europe, and the eastern half officially in Asia, is likely to be a major factor. Not only does the city’s ability to bring together two continents mean that it’s a cultural melting pot, but the diversity of millions of travelers that stop by to see its rich history and the beautiful Bosphorus Strait have also contributed to Istanbul’s cosmopolitan nature.
